If you are new to the wonderful world of essential oils, let us be the first to say “Welcome!” Essential oils provide a wide range of physical and mental benefits, and we’re so excited that you’re starting to discover all that they have to offer.
As you’ve probably noticed by now, there are literally hundreds of different essential oils you can experiment with, but how do you know which ones are right for you? To get you started off on the right foot, we’ve created a list of 5 essential oils that are great for daily use. We use most of these on a daily basis in our office!
1. Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint is one of our favorite essential oil. If you’re suffering from fever or nausea, putting a couple of drops of peppermint oil on the soles of your feet can provide wonderful relief. Make sure to use a carrier oil to avoid skin irritation and allergies.
For congestion, try adding a few drops of peppermint oil to a steaming pot of water and inhaling the steam to open up your sinuses.
2. Lavender Essential Oil
One of the most versatile and best essential oils, lavender oil is well-known for the calming effect it produces on the mind and nerves. We recommend adding a few drops of lavender oil to your bathwater at night to help you relax. You may also opt to combine lavender with a carrier oil like coconut or almond to make it your very own DIY massage oil.
Aside from its calming abilities, lavender essential oil also has many antiseptic and antibacterial properties, which make it an ideal addition to your skincare routine and even household cleaners.
3. Lime and Lemon Essential Oil
These essential oils are citrusy in nature, and they offer an abundance of antiseptic and antibacterial properties. They are believed to have cleansing properties that stimulate and bolster the immune system. Some clinical studies have discovered that both lime and lemon essential oil also possess microbial properties.
4. Rosemary Essential Oil
Try adding a drop or two of rosemary essential oil to your shampoo, and you’ll be amazed at how it improves your scalp’s health and increases the rate at which your hair grows. Rosemary oil was considered sacred by the ancient Greeks and Romans, and it has been used in home remedies for thousands of years to relieve muscle aches and pains, soothe digestive problems, and improve memory.
5. Tea Tree Essential Oil
Tea tree oil has an abundance of antibacterial and antiseptic properties, and it is commonly used in all-natural cleaning products. It smells absolutely delicious when mixed with citrus oil like lemon. Just a few other things that tea tree oil is used to treat include acne, cold sores, halitosis (bad breath), and fungal infections, like jock itch and athlete’s foot.
Final Thoughts
Although essential oils are natural plant compounds, they are quite powerful, so it’s important to ensure that you use them in a correct and safe manner. Two of our favorite ways to use essential oils are topically and with an oil diffuser both of which you can find out more about on our blog!
